In 2017, Black Owned & Operated Community Land Trust was created. Since then Black Owned and Operated Community Land Trust (“BOOCLT”) has been a significant part of what makes Leimert Park such a special place, and an integral aspect of life in our community providing arts, culture, economic support and education, our goal is to showcase the critical work done locally to a national audience as a sustainable model for communities of color facing similar challenges. Grounded in the belief in black excellence, self-reliance, self-governance; BOOCLT’s work provides opportunities for people of color to own the spaces that they patronize, live in and create value for. The land trust creates a tactical mechanism for which a representative board of the Leimert park community can remain the stewards of real property ensuring long term access and affordability to its community. We wish to continue our work with our donors, strategic partners and other stakeholders to raise and deploy funds for the benefit of the people who visit and live in the Leimert Park Community and value its place as the Black Cultural destination in Southern California. Our strategic plan helps ensure that by 2028, that BOOCLT is positioned for vibrant and sustainable execution of our mission and visions in Los Angeles through the coming decades. Our strategic plan covers our core projects, programs of BOOCLT and is organized into five areas: Real Estate, Incubator, Community Self-Governance, Organizational Excellence and Fiscal Excellence. Each of these areas has an overarching goal and objective, which is implemented by a variety of strategies and tactics.
BOOCLT is rooted in the idea that an organization of the community could combat the challenges business owners and community members face, such as gentrification, redlining, and other systemic challenges that have created within our communities. The merchants themselves and their various business efforts have been a significant part of what makes Leimert Park such a special place. Now, standing on the shoulders of decades of work to uplift art, culture, restorative economics, and education, BOOCLT is poised to demonstrate the power of a hyper-local approach to community development as a sustainable model for communities of color facing similar challenges.
Grounded in the belief in Black excellence, self-reliance, and self-governance, BOOCLT's work aims to provide people of color with the opportunity to own the value they create for the spaces they patronize and live in. By establishing a tactical mechanism that enables a representative board of the Leimert Park community to remain the stewards of real property, we will ensure long-term access and affordability for its inhabitants.
We remain committed to collaborating with our donors, strategic partners, and other stakeholders to raise and deploy capital to benefit the Leimert Park community, which serves as a cultural destination for Southern California and for Black America at large. Our strategic plan aims to position BOOCLT for execution of our mission, vision, and immediate objectives leading up to the 2028 LA Olympics.
Our strategic plan focuses on five core areas: Real Estate, Business Incubation, Community Self- Governance, Organizational Excellence, and Fiscal Excellence, each with its own overarching goal and objective. These areas are implemented through a variety of strategies and tactics.
In line with our mission, BOOCLT has four strategic areas of focus. We beleive that this focus will allow our organization to create significant impact with our community.
